Earlier this year Nutanix divided their release cycle into two streams, which is not uncommon amongst global software vendors. The terms Short Term Support and Long Term Support mean exactly that and customers will be able to choose a release of AOS that suits their approach to updating platforms.
Customers can read more about this via their Support Portal KB article 000005505, in summary here’s how things are:
Short Term Support
- Release cycle: Quarterly
- Support cycle: 3 x Months of maintenance followed by an additional 3 months of support
- What’s included: Major new features, hardware platforms for new features and bug fixes
- Target STS customer: Customers that are interested in adopting major new features and are able to perform upgrades multiple times a year
Long Term Support
- Release cycle: Annually
- Support cycle: 15 x Months of maintenance followed by an additional 6 months of support
- What’s included: Focused heavily on bug fixes with minimal minor feature introduction
- Target STS customer: Customers that are interested in a release family with an extended support cycle
